On a pleasant evening on January 29, 2024, Lynn’s Arcade in Seaside, California, became the epicenter of pinball magic for the MFPinball Winter Season #3 tournament. Under the clear skies and a 58°F chill, 36 pinball wizards congregated, their eyes set on victory, their fingers ready to dance across flippers. Organized by the esteemed Cary Carmichael, the tournament unfolded over 2.5 electrifying hours and 5 intense rounds.
The Duel on Deadpool
Round 3 witnessed a spectacle that would be etched in the annals of pinball history. The game in question? “Deadpool (Premium)” by Stern, a machine that combines humor, action, and skill like no other. Will Chernetsky from Salinas, CA, with an IFPA rank of 1625, emerged victorious, showcasing a blend of strategy and spontaneity. Greg Gorelick, Sneha Kolar, and the unranked Sydney Minges followed, each delivering performances that ranged from strategic plays to heart-stopping saves.
Champions of the Arena
As the final ball plunged into play and the scores tallied, four players stood above the rest:
- Xavier Marin, weaving through each round with precision and grace, clinched the top spot, their strategy unyielding against the challenges posed by each machine.
- Nate King, a contender not just by skill but by spirit, secured the second place, leaving a trail of high scores and stunned spectators.
- Harry Franklin, with determination and a touch of flair, landed in third place, proving that rankings only tell half the story.
- Mark Kudrav, an unranked enigma, defied expectations and clinched fourth, reminding everyone that in the world of pinball, anything is possible.
Mechanical Marvels of the Tournament
