A Tournament That Almost Lasted a Day… Literally!
Imagine a pinball tournament so intense, it almost spanned an entire day! Of course, we jest – the 23 hours and 45 minutes must have been a playful exaggeration by our organizers. Held at the ever-lively Pinball Jones in Fort Collins, the PBJ JAWS Launch Party brought together 24 pinball aficionados for a Group Knockout Tournament of epic proportions, masterfully orchestrated by Paul Kardell.
Star-Studded Showdown on Scared Stiff
From the get-go, the tournament was charged with excitement, especially during a standout match on the Scared Stiff pinball machine. DJ Martinez, a dark horse with no IFPA rank to his name, stunned everyone by claiming victory over seasoned players in the very first round. With pinballs whizzing and scores skyrocketing, this game set a thrilling tone for the rest of the event.
Celebrating the Champions
The tournament was a battlefield of skill, strategy, and a tad bit of luck, leading to some remarkable victories. A round of applause for David Klausa, who clinched the top spot with finesse and flair, closely followed by the talented Aidan Lancaster. Not to be overlooked, MJ Smith, our local hero from Fort Collins, secured a well-deserved third place, with Daniel Albeyta rounding out the top four. Each of these players showcased exceptional prowess and passion for pinball.
A Pinball Paradise
Pinball Jones was transformed into a veritable arcade heaven for the event, featuring an impressive lineup of 34 pinball machines. Among the highlights were the adrenaline-pumping Stranger Things (Pro), the classic charm of Attack from Mars, the retro vibe of Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy, the adventurous spirit of Indiana Jones: The Pinball Adventure, and the monstrously fun Monster Bash. Each game brought its own flavor to the tournament, making for a diverse and engaging experience.
More Than Just Pinball
Pinball Jones proved to be the ideal host for such a vibrant gathering. With its eclectic mix of classic games, cozy atmosphere, and a selection of beers and snacks, it was more than just a venue; it was a hub of joy and camaraderie for everyone involved.
A Heartfelt Thanks
As the flippers rest and the lights dim, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to Paul Kardell for organizing an unforgettable tournament, and to Pinball Jones for providing a spectacular setting. The PBJ JAWS Launch Party was a testament to the enduring charm of pinball and the vibrant community that surrounds it. Here’s to many more flips, scores, and cheers!
