This knockout extravaganza unfolded over 9 grueling rounds, where players were eliminated upon accruing 5 strikes. The Fair Strikes system added an extra layer of challenge, particularly in four-player and three-player groups, ensuring that every flip and save counted. The showdown lasted for an intense 4 hours at the vibrant locale of The Hills Pub, all orchestrated by the skillful Mark Schulz.
Round 7 Highlight: A Duel on Deadpool
The tournament’s standout moment arrived in Round 7 on the Deadpool (Pro) machine by Stern. This game, a fan favorite since its release on August 1, 2018, hosted a nail-biting showdown. Kevin Laughton clinched first place, proving that even the unranked can surprise. Mark Maleko Schulz, the local hero from San Diego, secured second, followed by Mark Brown CA and Jennifer Schulz in a suspenseful finish.
Champions of the Day
- Mark Brown CA: Clinching the top spot, Mark’s experience in 242 IFPA events and a rank of 1740 showed his strategic depth and resilience.
- Mark Maleko Schulz: The hometown favorite and organizer, with a rank of 472 after 334 events, demonstrated why he’s a force to be reckoned with, finishing a commendable second.
- Jennifer Schulz: Ranked 11376 with participation in 38 events, Jennifer’s third place is a testament to her growing prowess in the pinball world.
- Kevin Laughton: The dark horse of the tournament, unranked yet undeterred, Kevin’s fourth place is a beacon for all aspiring pinball enthusiasts.

- Godzilla (Pro): Stern’s monstrous creation from September 14, 2021, offers players city-smashing excitement and epic battles.
- 24: A throwback to the tense world of Jack Bauer since February 1, 2009, where every mission and multiball feels like a race against time.
- The Beatles: A nostalgic trip to the 60s with the Fab Four since November 1, 2018, combining classic pinball action with iconic tunes.
Venue and Atmosphere
The Hills Pub at 8758 La Mesa Blvd, La Mesa, CA, was more than just a venue; it was a vibrant hub of excitement and camaraderie.
