The 1up LoDo Looney May Monthly was a whirlwind of flippers, lights, and fierce competition! Held on May 5, 2024, at 6:00 PM, this Group Knockout Tournament saw 17 players face off in 9 rounds of pinball action. With the Progressive Strikes system, players were on their toes, aiming to avoid the dreaded strikes. Over the course of 11 hours, players battled it out under the overcast Denver skies, where temperatures hovered around 62°F.

Golden Tickets and Flippers: The Chocolate Factory Showdown

In Round 4, players were transported to a world of pure imagination with Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory by Jersey Jack Pinball. This game, released on April 12, 2019, brought the magical theme of the classic movie to life. The standout match saw Walt Wood from Englewood, CO, emerge victorious, showing mastery over the Oompa Loompas. John Quinn from Denver gave a valiant effort, securing second place, while Kyle Delaney and Mat Brundage rounded out the group.

Champions Rise: The 1up LoDo Looney May Monthly Winners

A hearty congratulations to the champions who rose above the competition:

1. Walt Wood from Englewood, CO (IFPA rank 41) – With 302 IFPA events under its belt, Walt’s experience shone through as it claimed the top spot.
2. John Quinn from Denver (IFPA rank 777) – John’s performance was nothing short of impressive, climbing to second place in just his 75th IFPA event.
3. Griffin Carr (IFPA rank 3395) – With 112 events, Griffin showcased his skills and secured a well-deserved third place.
4. David Witucki from Colorado (IFPA rank 3015) – David’s journey to fourth place in only his 47th event highlights his rapid rise in the pinball ranks.

Pinball Machines Galore: A Feast for the Eyes and Hands

The tournament featured a stellar lineup of 11 pinball machines. Here are five that stood out:

• Star Wars (Pro) by Stern (released June 2017): A galaxy far, far away comes to life with immersive gameplay and stunning visuals.
• The Simpsons Pinball Party by Stern (released January 2003): This machine brings Springfield to your fingertips with quirky characters and fun modes.
• Foo Fighters (Pro) by Stern (released March 2023): Rock out with the Foo Fighters as you navigate through concert-themed challenges.
• Rick and Morty by Spooky Pinball (released December 2019): Enter the bizarre world of Rick and Morty, where every game is an interdimensional adventure.
• JAWS (Pro) by Stern (released January 2024): Dive into the thrill of the hunt as you try to outsmart the infamous great white shark.

The 1up Arcade Bar – LoDo, located at 1925 Blake St, Denver, CO, was the perfect setting for this pinball extravaganza. With a nostalgic arcade atmosphere and delicious pizza, it provided a delightful backdrop for the tournament. The friendly server added to the welcoming vibe, making the experience enjoyable for everyone involved.
