The Electric Bat Season 12-Part 1 #4 tournament was an electrifying event held on June 18, 2024. With a grueling 5-round format, each round featuring a single game, 114 players gathered to test their skills. The event kicked off at 6:30 PM and ran for nearly three action-packed hours. As the sun set over Tempe, AZ, the temperature still sizzled at 101°F, making the clear sky and the intense competition inside the Electric Bat Arcade a perfect contrast.

Electric Bat Arcade: Where Magic Meets Metal

Found in the vibrant heart of Tempe, Electric Bat Arcade is a paradise for pinball enthusiasts. Located at 29 W. Southern Ave, this arcade boasts an array of both classic and modern pinball machines, all meticulously maintained. The adjacent Yucca Tap Room adds to the atmosphere, offering refreshments and live music, creating a seamless blend of fun and nostalgia. The owners, renowned for their passion and hospitality, ensure that every visit is an unforgettable experience. The arcade’s website, Electric Bat Arcade, offers a glimpse into this pinball haven.

Family Fun with Jack•Bot

In Round 5, the spotlight shone on Jack•Bot by Williams, a 1995 release and a proud member of my pinball family. Imagine the excitement of watching players navigate the robotic-themed game, filled with vibrant lights and sounds reminiscent of a casino. The players tackled the multiball madness and jackpot challenges, with Mike Fishell emerging victorious. Natalie Vraney, though unranked, put up a fierce fight, while Ken Klawitter and Carl Sadowski displayed their skills with admirable determination. It was a round filled with mechanical mayhem and robotic revelry!

• Sorcerer (Williams, 1985): This machine captivates with its enchanting artwork and mesmerizing sound effects. The intricate playfield and spellbinding theme make every game a magical experience.

• James Bond 007 (60th Anniversary LE) (Stern, 2022): Celebrating six decades of Bond, this machine is a sleek homage to the iconic spy, complete with high-stakes missions and classic Bond villains.
• Terminator 2: Judgment Day (Williams, 1991): Step into the world of Skynet with this fast-paced machine. Featuring Arnold Schwarzenegger’s iconic voice and intense gameplay, it’s a battle for the future.
• Iron Maiden: Legacy of the Beast (Stern, 2018): Rock out with this machine inspired by the legendary band. With its intricate playfield and epic soundtrack, it’s a journey through the realms of heavy metal.

The Champions: Rising to the Top

Celebrating the crème de la crème of pinball, the tournament concluded with some spectacular performances:

1. Mark Pearson: Dominating the competition, Mark, ranked 1st in the state and 55th nationally, showcased his unmatched skills. With 594 IFPA events under his belt, his victory was well-earned.
2. Jason Barre: Hailing from Mesa, AZ, Jason’s strategic prowess earned him the 2nd spot. His consistent performance in 447 IFPA events highlights his dedication and talent.
3. Jard Cassell: Representing Arizona, Jard’s skillful play secured him 3rd place. With a state rank of 12th and a national rank of 391, his rise in the pinball world is commendable.
4. Nate Tornero: From Chandler, AZ, Nate’s tenacity and skill landed him in 4th place. Ranked 7th in the state and 575th nationally, he continues to impress in the pinball arena.
