The Monster Showdown: Godzilla Premium in Round 4
Round 4 on Godzilla Premium was an absolute thriller. Released by Stern in 2021, this game draws you into a chaotic battle between monsters as you try to take down the infamous Kaiju. In this round, Mark Pearson, Arizona’s 3rd-ranked player, took control of the beast and dominated the field. Pearson’s skills were clear as he perfectly timed his shots to rack up destruction, outmaneuvering both Andrew Kohtz from Phoenix and Dana Boesen. Kohtz gave it his best, but with Pearson’s experience and rank, it was clear who would reign supreme in this monster melee. Godzilla’s multiball mode saw Pearson locking balls with ease, while his opponents struggled to keep up, making his victory in this round a decisive one. Pearson finished strong, keeping his hold on Arizona’s top ranks.
Pinball Machines in Action: A Closer Look
Let’s talk about the machines that kept the competition exciting. Player 1 Arcade rolled out some real crowd-pleasers for this tournament:
- James Bond 007 (Premium) – Released by Stern in 2022, this machine oozes spy thrill. With high-octane missions and sleek design, it challenges players to complete objectives while battling some of Bond’s greatest foes. The premium version features a jetpack ball lift that gets you into action quickly.
- Tales of the Arabian Nights – This 1996 Williams release is a favorite for many pinball enthusiasts. Its immersive theme, complete with spinning lamps and a genie that taunts you as you try to collect jewels, makes it a standout. The flowing ramps and challenging shots make this one of the most memorable machines out there.
- Iron Maiden: Legacy of the Beast – Stern’s 2018 release, based on the legendary metal band, is all about fast-paced action. Featuring multiple multiball modes and killer tracks, this machine tests players’ accuracy with its brutal shot layout. Every hit feels intense, just like Maiden’s music.
- Cyclone – This 1988 classic from Williams brings the carnival to life. With its carnival barker telling you to “ride the Ferris wheel” and a funhouse mirror to throw you off, it’s a game of funhouse thrills and clever design.
- Stranger Things (Pro) – Released in 2019, this machine drops you into the world of Hawkins, Indiana. The telekinetic powers of Eleven and the terrifying Demogorgon await as you battle through different missions. The magnetic ball lock is a highlight of this game, giving you that ’80s nostalgia with a modern twist.
Topping the Tournament: A Strong Finish
The final game of the night was played on The Walking Dead (Pro) by Stern, and the last survivors standing truly earned their spots. Dave Halley fought his way to first place, using every ounce of his experience from over 470 IFPA events to outlast the competition. His 40th place state ranking doesn’t do justice to how well he performed in this tournament. Mark Pearson, who dominated in earlier rounds, finished second overall. Given his 3rd state rank, his consistency throughout the tournament was no surprise, but Halley’s persistence secured the win. Rounding out the top three was Casey Halley, who put up a solid performance, proving the Halley family knows their way around a pinball machine! Mike McClure fought hard, finishing in fourth place and showcasing why they’re a consistent force in the Arizona pinball scene.
