A little history on Zaccaria
Zaccaria was an Italian pinball manufacturer founded in 1974 by brothers Marino, Franco, and Natale Zaccaria. The company quickly became one of the leading European pinball producers, distinguishing itself with vibrant artwork, innovative playfield features, and distinctive game designs. Unlike many American manufacturers, Zaccaria machines often had unique mechanics, such as timed ball saves, voice synthesis, and eye-catching backglass animations. Their use of bright colors and creative themes made them stand out in the competitive pinball market of the late 1970s and early 1980s.
Throughout its production years, Zaccaria released over 40 pinball titles, including popular games like Soccer Kings (1982), Devil Riders (1984), and Magic Castle (1984). The company became known for incorporating advanced technology into its machines, including early alphanumeric displays and deep rule sets. However, as the pinball industry faced decline in the late 1980s, Zaccaria struggled to compete and ultimately ceased pinball production around 1988. Despite its closure, Zaccaria remains a beloved name among collectors, and its machines are still sought after for their unique European styling and gameplay. In recent years, digital recreations of Zaccaria’s pinball tables have helped introduce new generations to the company’s legacy.
