Volèe, produced by Europlay, is a charming Electromechanical throwback that trades the grit of the arcade for the pristine clay of the tennis court. Featuring artwork by Michele “Mike” Martinelli, this single-player machine is a masterclass in the “Add-a-ball” style of gameplay, prioritizing sustained survival and incremental point accumulation over the flash and spectacle of modern solid-state titles. The layout is deceptively straightforward, utilizing three banks of five drop targets that dominate the playfield, flanked by a trio of pop bumpers that provide the erratic, high-energy bounces necessary to keep the ball in play during a tense rally.
The core of the Volèe experience is built on precision and patience. To maximize your score, you must resist the urge to immediately batter the drop targets; instead, the most effective strategy involves clearing the top lanes first. Lighting these lanes primes the corresponding drop banks, inflating their value from a meager 100 points to a significantly more rewarding 5,000 points per target. Players should exercise caution, however, as the game’s mechanisms can be sensitive to simultaneous hits. A “sloppy” shot that strikes multiple targets at once may fail to register correctly, effectively wasting a high-value opportunity. By methodically working the lanes before transitioning to the banks, you turn the game into a tactical match, forcing you to play with the same accuracy and control as a pro athlete on the baseline.
