Gottlieb’s “Eclipse” is an incredibly rare solid-state widebody, designed by John Buras and Shing Lam, with a confirmed production run of only 193 units. The expansive playfield requires a monumental four flippers to navigate, offering an unparalleled level of control across the wide layout.
Four pop bumpers and two slingshots keep the ball moving with dangerous velocity, while two kick-out holes and a kicking target provide essential utility and momentary control amid the chaos. The strategic depth of “Eclipse” is immense, forcing players to target eight standup targets and a spinning target to build their score.
The core challenge, however, is managing the massive array of drop targets: players must systematically clear a five-bank, a four-bank, and a three-bank to maximize scoring potential. The sheer width of the table, combined with the density of targets, makes “Eclipse” a marathon of endurance and precision, demanding calculated, sweeping shots rather than frantic flipping.
