Evolution Gameplay & History

Jeutel’s “Evolution” is an incredibly obscure solid-state release from the French manufacturer, with only 180 units confirmed produced. Featuring science and evolution-themed artwork by Michele “Mike” Martinelli, the machine presents a demanding, target-rich layout.

The playfield requires four flippers to fully control the action, allowing for complex cross-playfield shots. A single pop bumper and two slingshots provide the kinetic energy, but the true focus is precision targeting. Players must navigate a dense array of eight standup targets and three star rollovers to build points. A single kick-out hole offers utility, while a left outlane kickback provides a vital, albeit temporary, safety net against drains.

The core challenge involves systematically clearing a four-bank and a three-bank of drop targets, which act as the main gateways to higher scoring. “Evolution” is a highly technical shooter’s game that rewards calculated combos and deep lane control over mere reaction time.
