Black Hole Gameplay & History

Fall into the void — this is Black Hole from LTD do Brasil, a 1982 solid-state two-player wrapped in an outer-space fantasy theme, from the Brazilian manufacturer whose machines form a fascinating, often-overlooked chapter of pinball’s global story. With an alphanumeric display, it’s an intriguing international title that brings a distinctly Brazilian flavor to the cosmic theme.

The strategy is a satisfying multiplier-and-spinner game. The 1-2-3 rollovers give you 2x, 3x and beyond, and those multipliers carry over — though the veterans note to keep them at 4x for balls one and two, since 5x apparently won’t carry. Completing the target groups (the red and yellow drops and the green standups) lights points at the saucer, and finishing all the colors lights the Blackout feature, which doubles the saucer’s value but resets your target progress — a tempting risk-reward decision. The targets are dangerous but advance the three spinners, and those spinners are excellent points, so a bold player accepts a little risk to keep them ripping. With six standups, dual three-banks of drops, and that trio of spinners, there’s a busy field to work.

Black Hole is a fine example of the broader, international sweep of pinball history beyond the familiar American names. LTD do Brasil built machines with real character, and this space-themed title carries a distinctly Brazilian flavor into the solid-state era. For the collector who appreciates the global corners of the hobby and the makers who worked far outside the usual pantheon, it’s a worthy find. Build your carryover multipliers, work the target groups, and rip those three spinners. The far corners of pinball history hold plenty of cosmic surprises, and this Brazilian machine is one of them. Fall into the void and drop a coin.
