Ghostbusters (Pro) Gameplay & History

Stern’s Ghostbusters, released in 2016 and designed by John Trudeau, bottles the supernatural comedy of the films into one of the most visually busy — and notoriously challenging — machines of its era. This Pro edition packs the playfield with six captive balls, a spinning target, a Newton ball, and a bi-directional ramp, all wrapped in glowing green slime and the unmistakable wail of the proton packs. It’s a table with a fearsome reputation for hungry outlanes, rewarding players who respect its danger.

The scoring rewards a deliberate, multiplier-minded approach. The left “P” rollover is the prize, handing out +3X bonus each time it’s hit, while collecting gears via the left ramp builds toward lucrative proton-pack hurry-ups. Stacking the “K” rollover multipliers with the towering Stay Puft can lead to enormous points. Modes start at the left scoop, ramp, and right loop — and the number of modes you complete down each branch determines how you reach the “We Came, We Saw” mini-wizard mode.

Survival is half the game. Veterans use the short ball-save window from the right kickout to bounce-pass safely to the right flipper and pick off the captive balls, qualifying locks before chasing a skill shot. Loud, dense, and unforgiving, the Ghostbusters Pro is a machine that punishes the careless and richly rewards the player who learns its rhythms — a slime-soaked test of nerve that keeps the quarters flowing.
