Jurassic Park (Premium) Gameplay & History

Stern’s Jurassic Park stands as one of designer Keith Elwin’s crowning achievements, a 2019 table so widely admired that it’s become shorthand for great modern playfield design. The premise is pulled straight from the 1993 film: the park has gone haywire, dinosaurs are loose across Isla Nublar, and you’re tasked with rescuing the staff and recapturing the beasts. The Premium edition delivers Elwin’s full vision, three flippers orchestrating a fast, flowing field where ramps and orbits link together into the kind of long, satisfying combos that make the game sing.

What hooks players is the variety of ways in. You spell MAP across the white arrows to light the paddock modes, working through rescue shots to set traps and collect bounties on each dinosaur. Three distinct multiballs await — Raptor, locked by advancing the standups in the Raptor Pit; Chaos, spelled out behind the pop bumpers; and the headline T-Rex Multiball, where shooting the red jackpot arrows in strict order multiplies your take with every hit. Stacking a mode or T-Rex event onto a multiball is the route to the truly enormous scores.

The skill-shot system alone could keep a player busy for weeks. Beyond the standard full-plunge ramp combo, there are layered secret variants climbing all the way up to an “ultra super” award for those who can thread the ball through a precise chain of ramps and lanes. Capturing the T-Rex in its paddock and rescuing a full crew lights extra balls along the way. It’s a masterclass in flow and reward, and a centerpiece any collection would be proud to host.
