The Munsters (Premium) Gameplay & History

The Premium edition of Stern’s The Munsters takes John Borg’s 2019 tribute to the classic monster-family sitcom and adds the showpiece toys collectors covet. Designed by Borg with hand-drawn artwork by Christopher Franchi, it brings Herman, Lily, Grandpa, and the gang to a four-flipper layout with twin Newton-ball targets, a captive ball, and an elevating center ramp, with the Premium layering extra mechanical character over the Pro.

The scoring revolves around the family. Shooting Herman starts a hurry-up; collect it with a second Herman hit and magna-lock a ball, then strike the captive ball once more to launch multiball. The blue Kitty target beside Herman bumps the playfield multiplier when lit, the key to amplifying everything else. The marquee chase is Munster Madness, lit by working through Herman, Raven, Lily, Spot, and Grandpa — and the smart pattern is to build a stacked super jackpot with a playfield multiplier (ideally 6X) before cashing in.

A word of warning baked into the design: by default the game has no ball saver, so the wise move is a short plunge to trap up on the right flipper, skipping the low-scoring skill shots entirely. Charming, tricky, and full of monster-mash personality, the Munsters Premium is a Borg design with real teeth — a table that rewards patient, multiplier-minded play and a love of classic TV camp, in its fully-equipped form. They’re a spooky little family, and altogether collectible.
