The Munsters (Pro) Gameplay & History

The Pro edition of Stern’s The Munsters, released in 2019, delivers John Borg’s tribute to the beloved 1960s monster-family sitcom in its leaner, more accessible form. As the company’s first title of the year, designed by Borg with hand-drawn artwork by Christopher Franchi, it brings the ghoulish charm of Herman, Lily, Grandpa, and the gang to a four-flipper layout with twin Newton-ball targets, a captive ball, and an elevating center ramp.

The scoring revolves around the family. Shooting Herman starts a hurry-up; collect it with a second Herman hit and magna-lock a ball, then strike the captive ball once more to launch multiball. The blue Kitty target beside Herman bumps the playfield multiplier when lit, a key to amplifying everything else. The marquee chase is Munster Madness, lit by working through Herman, Raven, Lily, Spot, and Grandpa — and the smart pattern is to build a stacked super jackpot with a playfield multiplier (ideally 6X) before cashing in.

A word of warning baked into the design: by default the game has no ball saver, so the wise move is a short plunge to trap on the right flipper and skip the low-scoring skill shots entirely. Charming, tricky, and full of monster-mash personality, the Munsters Pro is a Borg design with real teeth — a table that rewards patient, multiplier-minded play and a love of classic TV camp, in its most accessible package. Welcome to 1313 Mockingbird Lane.
