The Rolling Stones Gameplay & History

Stern’s The Rolling Stones, released in 2011 and designed by Tom Kopera, channels the swagger of the world’s greatest rock and roll band into a fast, combo-driven playfield. Built around the Stones’ legendary catalog and iconic tongue-and-lips logo, it’s an energetic music pin that rewards a player who learns to weave its ramps, orbits, and modes into long, satisfying chains.

The scoring revolves around combos and stacking multiballs. The guitar targets light combos, and the goal is to chain ramps and orbits into a five-way combo — the pops and the Records shot will end a combo, but they can serve as the fifth shot. The deep play is all about layering: stack the song modes into the Album or Rock Star multiballs to maximize points, starting Records first, then Licks, then the multiball. The VIP bank is a valuable tool, adding time to modes during single-ball play and adding a ball during multiball, with add-a-ball taking priority.

There’s a rewarding super skill shot, too — a soft plunge to the “Play Records” lane between the center and right ramps, or a short plunge to pick off the Rock Star targets without burning the ball save before hitting the records shot. Loud, fast, and dripping with rock-and-roll attitude, The Rolling Stones is an underrated Kopera machine that captures the band’s electric energy. For fans of the Stones — and players who love a great combo-and-multiball game — it’s a satisfying tribute that delivers exactly what you want: it’s only rock and roll, but you’ll like it.
