Gay Paree Gameplay & History

Williams’ “Gay Paree” is an electromechanical homage to the vibrant nightlife and dancing culture of Paris, featuring the collaborative genius of designer Harry Williams and artist George Molentin. The playfield is a masterpiece of density and kinetic energy, offering a substantial challenge for tournament players.

Two flippers and two slingshots serve as the primary defense against a chaotic upper field dominated by four active pop bumpers and four passive bumpers. This eight-bumper configuration creates an incredibly unpredictable environment where controlling the ball’s momentum is nearly impossible without expert nudging skills. The table also features a single standup target and two kick-out holes that provide brief moments of control and scoring opportunity.

However, the true peril lies in the two gobble holes. As is characteristic of the era, hitting a gobble hole grants a massive score bonus but instantly terminates the ball, forcing players to constantly weigh the potential payout against the guarantee of a drain.
