The event, organized by Space City Pinball, saw intense competition over seven rounds, culminating in a thrilling finals where the top eight battled it out in two rounds of three games each. Despite the light rain and the sweltering heat that felt like 103°F, the pinball spirits were high, and the competition fierce.

The arcade is renowned for its family-friendly atmosphere, making it an ideal spot for pinball lovers of all ages. Epic Showdown on JAWS (LE)

The highlight of the finals was undoubtedly the marathon match on JAWS (LE), Stern’s January 2024 release. This game, inspired by the iconic shark thriller, saw players Chris Low, Chris Geist, Mike Flanagan, and Grayson Turner locked in a grueling 99-minute duel. The tension was palpable as each player skillfully navigated the perilous waters of Amity Island, dodging the great white shark to rack up points. In the end, Chris Low emerged victorious, showcasing his prowess and nerve under pressure.

Star Machines on Display

The tournament featured an impressive lineup of 16 machines, each with its unique flair and challenges. James Bond 007 (LE) by Stern, with its sleek spy-themed design, kept players on their toes. Theatre of Magic by Bally captivated with its enchanting illusions and magical tricks. JAWS (LE) brought the thrill of shark-infested waters right to the flippers. Toy Story 4 (LE) by Jersey Jack Pinball delighted with its nostalgic adventure, while Monster Bash (Remake LE) by Chicago Gaming resurrected the classic monster-movie chaos. Other standouts included Godzilla (LE), Cactus Canyon (Remake LE), and the ever-popular Medieval Madness (Remake Royal Edition).

Grayson Turner, from Spring, TX, secured second place with a rank of 1496 in 115 events. Chris Low, ranked 2356 with 144 events, and Mike Flanagan, from Houston, TX, ranked 1166 with 106 events, rounded out the top four. Special mention to Troy Saenz, Matt Quantz, Conner Hughes, and Kyle Hanna for their remarkable performances.

This thrilling tournament, organized by the masterful Richard Godwin, spanned over three rounds with a single game per round and hosted four fierce competitors. From start to finish, the event kept everyone on the edge of their seats for a gripping 3 hours and 30 minutes.

The Secretive Venue

Ah, the intrigue! MatchPlay software seems to have missed the memo on our tournament’s location, keeping it shrouded in mystery. Perhaps it’s all part of the plan to keep us on our toes, or maybe it’s a secret pinball haven known only to the elite. Whatever the case, we’ll leave them to their secrets and focus on the electrifying matches that took place.

Galactic Showdown: The Mandalorian (Premium)

Round 1 kicked off with a battle worthy of the Star Wars saga itself, on Stern’s The Mandalorian (Premium). Released in July 2021, this game captures the essence of the galaxy’s most notorious bounty hunter. In an epic face-off, Donovan Haga, with his keen reflexes and precise shots, navigated through missions like a true Mandalorian. He conquered the game with unmatched skill, leaving Arthur Eckhardt, Michael Serna, and Sarah Bay trailing in his wake. Haga’s mastery of the game’s intricate missions and multi-balls secured his triumph in this round.

  4. Sarah Bay rounded out the top four with her consistent play. Ranked 64th in the state and 1921st in the IFPA, her participation in 278 events speaks volumes about her commitment to the sport.

In a day that felt like a wild ride through a pinball machine, the MF Quarterly pinball tournament lit up Lynn’s Arcade: A Pinball Parlor and Can Slangery on June 22, 2024. With 29 players battling through 13 intense rounds, the top 12 advanced to a nerve-wracking finals. The competition, orchestrated by the maestro Cary Carmichael, spanned over 7 hours, wrapping up just in time for a celebratory drink. With a cool 61°F and just a few clouds, the conditions were perfect for some heated pinball action.

The semifinals brought us an epic showdown on Disney TRON: Legacy by Stern, a game that mirrored the futuristic world of the movie. Tim Hansen, ranked 3rd in the state and 28th in the IFPA, showcased his prowess, taking first place after an astonishing 65 minutes. Harry Franklin, ranked 236th in the state, put up a valiant fight to claim second, while Nate King and Tyler Heath battled it out for third and fourth. This game was a true test of skill and endurance, highlighting the competitive spirit of pinball.
