Stewie’s Saturday Strikes Benefit Tournament

The afternoon of May 25, 2024, was filled with excitement and camaraderie as pinball wizards descended upon The Avenue Cafe for Stewie’s Saturday Strikes Benefit Tournament. This unique Group Knockout Tournament featured nine fierce competitors, each battling to avoid the dreaded seventh strike. Using the Fair Strikes system, players in four-player groups received one strike for 2nd and 3rd place and two strikes for 4th place, while three-player groups saw one strike for 2nd place and two strikes for 3rd place. The tournament, organized by the ever-dedicated Joe Wade, lasted just over five thrilling hours under a clear sky and a comfortable 74°F.

The Spy Who Flipped Me: James Bond 007 Showdown

Round 5 brought the intensity to a peak with an unforgettable match on the James Bond 007 (Premium/LE) pinball machine by Stern, released in September 2022. The game’s espionage theme added an extra layer of intrigue and excitement to the competition. Jimmy Raffaele, ranked 14130 by IFPA, emerged victorious, navigating the machine’s complex playfield with the precision of a secret agent. Tim Treichel, with an IFPA rank of 1876, secured second place, followed by Josh Bauer, ranked 669, in third. Mike Stewart Jr., ranked 948, put up a strong fight but ultimately took fourth.

Located at 2021 East Michigan Avenue, Lansing, MI, The Avenue Cafe proved to be an ideal venue for the tournament. This quirky dive offered a surprising ramen menu, a plethora of pinball machines, a pool table, and a stage for karaoke and live music. The cozy atmosphere and excellent service added to the charm, making it a memorable experience for all attendees. Parking might be a bit tricky due to nearby businesses, but the fantastic service and vibrant ambiance more than made up for it. Special shoutout to the wait staff, who were attentive and accommodating throughout the event.

On the evening of May 24, 2024, pinball enthusiasts gathered at Murphy’s On 21 for the much-anticipated Flipsanity! 2024 tournament. With a thrilling format of six rounds and one game per round, 20 passionate players went head-to-head in a nearly four-hour-long battle of skill and strategy. Organized by the ever-dedicated Tyler Becker, this event was nothing short of spectacular, despite the light rain and a comfortable temperature of 76°F outside.

Iron Maiden Showdown: A Metal-Fueled Duel

Round 3 saw an electrifying match on the iconic Iron Maiden pinball machine by Stern Electronics, released in October 1981. The theme of the game, inspired by the legendary heavy metal band, set the perfect tone for a fierce competition. John Miller from Missouri, ranked 272 by IFPA, emerged victorious with a masterful performance. Steve Rolsing from St. Louis, ranked 584, took second place, showcasing impressive skills. Corey Thompson from Missouri, ranked 2805, secured third place, while Tyler Becker, the tournament organizer, placed fourth with an IFPA rank of 251.

May 24, 2024, was an evening filled with excitement and fierce competition as pinball enthusiasts gathered at What’s Brewing? Coffee Roasters for the highly anticipated Belles & Chimes SATX – Spring 2024 #5 tournament. With a format designed to test skill and endurance, ten players battled it out over six rounds, each round comprising two intense games. The top four players then moved on to a gripping final round, where three games determined the ultimate champions. The tournament was masterfully organized by Christina Cheeseman, ensuring a smooth and thrilling experience for all.

Round 1 of the tournament featured an unforgettable match on the classic Joker Poker pinball machine by Gottlieb, dating back to January 8, 1978. The game’s vintage charm and engaging playfield provided the perfect backdrop for an epic showdown. Tricia Gronnevik, ranked 5794 by IFPA, emerged victorious in this round, showcasing her pinball prowess. LouAnn Bailey, Julia Mendez, and Sophie Gronnevik also put up a formidable fight, each demonstrating remarkable skill and strategy.
